BRAXTON W. CAMPBELL, (1851-1926) was one of Cincinnati‘s most successful manufacturers.  At the age of six he was left a double orphan by the death of his father and mother; and after spending his boyhood in Kentucky, went to Cincinnati. Ohio, and began work as an office boy at five dollars a week.  He went on the road as a travelling salesman and was very successful.  In 1874, at the age of twenty-three he went into the saddlery business as a travelling salesman, and at twenty-six established the firm of Perkins-Campbell Company. Cincinnati, of which he became President.

Mr. Campbell's firm was the largest manufacturer of harness and saddlery in the world with branches in Chicago. Milwaukee and New York City, with an immense business in army supplies for the Allies during the 1914 European war,  furnishing saddles and harness valued at more than $8,000,000.

In 1885, he built the Kemper Castle on the highest hill in Cincinnati's Walnut Hills.

We purchased the house out of foreclosure and began renovating the house into a fine first floor office and 5 additional residential apartments.  The first priority was to stabilize the site by demolishing the garage and replacing the water lines and front wall.

The house and site were rapidly deteriorating.

In March, with renovation nearly complete, we started discussions with corporate and private tenants.

A few days later ... on Easter Sunday Morning, at 1 AM, an Arson fire was set on the back porch.

Fire and water damage wiped out five man years of full time work and a $ 150,000 cash investment.

Cincinnati ordered it's demolition.
